Bring Me The Horizon is one of those bands that most people don't know. You either are a huge fan and know all of their songs, or you've never heard of them. Headed by lead singer and one of the craziest lead singers to ever have a place in the metal music industry, Oliver Sykes also known as Oli. Guitarists Lee Malia, and Curtis Ward, bassist Matt Kean, and drummer Matt Nichols are the missing pieces of the band. The band got their name from the popular movie "Pirates of the Caribbean". Hailing from the Yorkshire, England, the group fits the classic "metal" description with all of its members being almost completely tattooed, and having multiple piercings.
The bands musical style is classified by Wikipedia as Death Metal, and Emo. I would just say that that is wrong. BMTH is more of a Metalcore style band. With their fast guitar riffs, and turn into breakdowns quite often, pounding bass and drums, and screaming vocals, they fit the metalcore genre perfectly. On some occasions, the band also uses slight amounts of synthesizers. The bands first full length album was titled " Count Your Blessings" and was released on a not so well known label "Earache". The album was by no means praised by music critics. They didn't see the potential that the band had. Fans of the style of music however, did. They developed a almost cult-like fan base in and around their home town. The band decided to write more music. Their second album was released in 2008 and is titled "Suicide Season". The album caused a lot of controversy because the cover features a woman in a dress holding intestines in her hands. The album itself was much better than the bands first release. It shows how much a group can musically grow in just two years. The album was released on "Epitath" records, who they are still signed with to this day. Through word of mouth, and being signed to a major label, the bands name kept growing and growing. By this time they had built up a rather large fan base, of which I was a part of. The bands next full length album was titled "There is a Hell Believe Me I’ve Seen It. There is a Heaven Let’s Keep it a Secret". The band had done nothing but improve since they started making music and this album was no different from the others. They were now a global sensation of metalcore fury. The band only has one more album, which just recently was released. In April 2013, "Sempiternal" was released. It is in my opinion some of the best work the band has ever done. I have listened to the album from beginning to end countless times. "Sempiternal" was the album that the bad has taken the most time on to really get it sounding the way that they wanted it too. They are one of the few groups that can meld electronic music into metal as well as they did in "Sempiternal". The bands lyrics are all written by Sykes, and they are very straightforward. The band has been falsely accused of being a "satanic worship" group because people misinterpret their lyrics. They are not "Devil worshippers", they simply do not take part and are completely against organized religion. You can tell this in all of their albums, but particularly "Sempiternal".The band has toured the world a few times, the states plenty of times, and has partaken in a few Cans Warped Tours. They will always be one of my favorites, and it is exciting for me to watch them grow, musically and emotionally.
