W-1 Silverstein

Silverstein acquired the name from the famous children's author. Silverstein was formed in early 2000 in an attempt to tear down the boundaries between Hardcore, Emo and Punk. Originally started as a side project, the band was a chance for its members to try something new and get away from their current Punk, Metal, Ska and Hardcore bands. Silverstein came from the thriving scene of Ontario. The Ontario scene included such acts as Grade, Jersey, Moneen, and Maharahj. The release was met with massive success due to the bands new, powerful sound. As the bands success grew, Silverstein became the main project for all of the people involved. Founding guitar player, Richard McWalter left the band to carry out his own musical journey and was replaced by Maharahj guitarist, Neil Boshart. With the new lineup of the band, they toured all over Quebec and eastern Canada. The band found that there was a crazy amount of excitement about

their music and they were beginning to form a very dedicated fan base.  In April 2002, their second EP "When the Shadows Beam" was released and found its way into the hands of Victory Records owner, Tony Brummel. After a meeting and showcase, Silverstein was quickly signed to Victory in October 2002. With influences in literally everything, Silverstein is a very well put together conglomerate of everything. The powerful melodic guitar riffs layered with soft spoken vocals and gut wrenching screams, they have a very unique sound. You can feel real pain, emotion, and frustration in Shane Told’s voice. They have found a way to keep their music unique and interesting, but still extremely catchy. Bringing a violin into the mix, and adding 6/8 meter melodic parts to screaming breakdowns help to achieve this. The sound is all reinforced by the rhythmic beat of the bass and drums. Silverstein packs a lot of emotion and feeling into their music. I really enjoy listening to them.
