Tom Morello was born in Harlem New York, on May 30th,
1964. He is best known as the lead guitarist for “Rage against the Machine” and
“Audioslave”. His mother was a Caucasian school teacher and activist. His
father was a Kenyan, who fought for his country’s independence from the British.
Raised in a suburb of Chicago, Illinois he picked up a guitar at the age of
seventeen. Inspired by his love for punk rock, and metal he began to play
music. Morello is a graduate of Harvard University, which surprises most
people. Morello teamed up with Zack De
La Rocha, Tim Commerford, and Brad Wilk who all eventually formed Rage against
the Machine. It was with Rage when Morello became famous for his style of
guitar playing. Morello has one of the most distinct guitar styles. When you
hear it once, it is not something you quickly forget. When Rage went on hiatus,
Morello got in contact with Chris Cornell formerly of the band
“Soundgarden” to
become “Audioslave”. Morello’s crazy guitar style clashed very hard with
Cornells mid tempo vocal style, but it created something awesome. The band
released three commercially successful albums. Audioslave ended in 2005, and Morello
greatly wanted to stay involved in music. He created an alter ego, whom he
calls “The Nightwatchman”. He recorded his first solo album in 2007. His guitar
style was greatly different from his days with Rage, and Audioslave. The
Nightwatchman was an acoustic based, folk music. Morello is a phenomenal musician,
who sends out a very good message. I
think he will always be a part of the music industry. Hopefully one day, Rage
against the machine will do a reunion tour. I along with thousands of others
would love to see Morello and the rest of Rage perform live.
